lateral bundle of plantar fascia ( RID3232 )
This is insertional lateral cord plantar fasciopathy, which is often clinically mistaken for peroneus brevis insertional tendinosis or 5th MT base fracture. On occasion, there is localized swelling clinically presenting as a mass. That is why this MRI was ordered with contrast. Though I wouldnt advise contrast as routine for plantar fasciopathy, I believe it shows a small tear (red arrow) to better advantage. The reactive enhancing perifascial inflammation is also seen to better advantage post contrast and suggests why this has presented as a painful mass.
