Iliac tubercle apophysitis
This is a variant on Proximal Iliotibial Band Syndrome, which we reported in 2011 in a cohort of both female athletes (mostly runners) and others who were decidedly non-athletes. What this teenager has in common are chronic, refractory symptoms with delay in diagnosis, incorrectly thought to be hip pathology. Not that we have barely included the iliac tubercle at the cranial margin of the FOV. There is stress related marrow edema throughout the anterior superior iliac bone. (Note the difference between the Iliac tubercle, ASIS and AIIS) For those who tightly cone down the FOV, this would be missed by hip MRI.
